The Jocs Florals (Floral Games) were organized through the Technical Catalan course. 90 students participated, completing their writing assignments in person during class to prevent the misuse of AI. The theme and format (short story, poem, opinion piece) were open, although several recurring themes stood out: global wars, current urban music, immigration, and love in all its forms... all following the established guidelines.
The four winners were selected based primarily on the sentiment and emotion conveyed in their writing. Orthographic and grammatical perfection were secondary (in fact, imperfections were viewed positively) to emphasize the human traits where AI is least effective.
The ceremony took place in the Assembly Hall, where the Director, Cati Romero, addressed the participants to explain the origins of Sant Jordi and its legend. The Catalan teacher, Núria Solé, shared her assessment of the submissions, highlighting the quality and emotional depth of many pieces. Afterward, all participants were invited onto the stage to receive a rose.
To conclude the event, and after explaining the selection criteria, the four winners were announced:
From TES1: Daniel Ortiz, with the text Esperanza, dedicated to his mother.
From ADM1: Elsa Benet, with El Cofre dels Records.
From FAR1: Lucía Bernal, with Fulla Seca.
From APD1: Nicole Cayero, with La Flor Blanca.
Each winner was gifted a great book. :-)
